An Unexpected Tuscan Wine Experience
A memorable Rosso Toscano from a heartwarming family
Sometimes the most memorable wines come from places you never expected—off the beaten path, presented with no fanfare, shared with quiet pride. This surprise, a bottle of Rosso Toscano, came with our Airbnb key in a tiny Tuscan village, and it stopped us in our tracks.
A welcome that set the tone
We had just arrived in Ville di Corsano, a peaceful village nestled in the Tuscan countryside. Our Airbnb, La Roverella Agriturismo, was a dream—warm, cozy, and surrounded by vineyards, olive trees, and beautifully restored with parts of the structure dating back to the 1400s. Waiting on the table was a bottle of 2024 Rosso Toscano, a gift from our hosts, the Machetti family. We opened it that evening with simple bruschetta, hoping for a decent table wine—and instead, we were completely taken aback. It was bursting with flavor, beautifully balanced, and a finish that lingered. We looked at each other, smiling: Where did this come from?

The story behind the bottle
Curious, we asked our hosts—and the next day, they welcomed us into their small family-run winery, just steps from our door of our Airbnb. Machetti Wines is not a business built for export or scale. It’s personal. They make Rosso Toscano and extra virgin olive oil in limited quantities. They do so by simply taking what the land will give them each year and crafted for friends, family, and the local community. The wine can widely vary depending on the season, the weather and the harvest conditions because the wine is made without any further interferences. The grapes are harvested all at the same time, de-stemmed, fermented (spontaneous) in stainless steel, and aged in a concrete vat. In 2024 everything came together perfectly and an incredible wine was born. A wine that was so perfectly balanced with intense flavors and a soothing, lingering finish it was impossible to put down.
The family showed us around with quiet pride. No big labels. No big operation. Just tradition, care, and a deep connection to the land. And the 2024 wine we loved? It sells for six euros—what?! That’s when you know it’s not about price—it’s about heart.

Why this moment mattered
Sometimes, language barriers make room for something else—a deeper awareness. That afternoon, we didn’t just taste a wine. We felt the heart of the place. The slower rhythm of village life. The sincerity of people doing something well simply because they care for what they do, for each other and to honor their past.
This is what we look for at Spoken Wines. Hidden gems. Honest stories. Wines that surprise you and stay with you. We came to Ville di Corsano for peace and beauty. We left with something far more memorable. ❤️
