Familia Altieri Winery - A Seamless Journey Through Time Powered by Women

The story of the three Marias

Wines designed, grown, produced and sold by women. A story of two daughters working with their mother to express their deep roots in the wine industry of Mendoza to precision crafted, premium wines. All three women carry the name Maria. But the mother goes by Cecilia, and the daughters by Angie and, of course, one needs to carry the name Maria.

A wine making journey through time

Entering the grounds you will be taken back in time to a meticulously designed display of wine making tools and vineyard machinery that wine makers had available back in the early nineteen hundreds. The winery itself dates even further back to 1890 built by Italian immigrants. You can take a walk through the immense concrete wine fermentation vats they used at that time. That walk is literally a journey through time because you end up in their modern wine making facility with the latest technology to carefully grade, sort and process the grapes

Wine making with precision viticulture

Grapes are received at a modern wine production facility where they are first macerated and then fermented in small vats and stainless steel tanks to preserve the identity of the select small vineyard parcels. Each of these parcels are managed separately throughout the season and harvested separately to preserve the identity throughout the winemaking process. Wine is aged in new and used French oak to optimize the expression of each parcel while still reflecting the unique terroir of each parcel and providing a sense of place.

The Altieri family produces different single varietals and blends while Malbec is still king! After all, we are here in the Perdriel district of Lujan de Cuyo, one of the most prestigious wine regions in Argentina and known for their superb quality Malbec. We loved their highly awarded Victorio Altieri Malbec 2021. An elegant yet distinct Malbec with nuanced layers of dark fruit infused with fine grain tannins and subtle hints of vanilla. These flavors move from the center of your palette to an endlessly lingering finish. Our favorite blend was The Chateau Brandson 2021 red blend of Malbec, Syrah and Cab Sauv. Again a seamless journey of bold, expressive flavors perfectly playing together. At the end, the three Marias surprised us with a lovely aromatic, elegant 2023 Chardonnay that had this unique surprising burst of flavor on the finish. A beautiful family producing beautiful wines.
