From Fashion to Fine Wine: Cavalli’s Tuscan Legacy
From the runway to the vineyard: a son’s tribute, a Tuscan treasure
Sometimes a vineyard visit isn’t just about the wine. It’s about timing, a moment, or a memory shaped by the people who invite you in. We came to Tenuta degli Dei because of our friend Mara. She said, “You need to meet Tommaso. This place, these wines—you’ll love it.” That was all it took. That, and the fact that Mara works with Tommaso Cavalli, son of the late Roberto Cavalli: Fashion icon - Vintner - Visionary.
He’s no longer here, but his legacy lingers across these Tuscan hills.
Elegance off the beaten path
It was the annual ‘spring release’ weekend in Panzano in Chianti, a celebration among some of the best Chianti wineries in the district. The town and surrounding area was alive with energy. Wineries opened their gates and poured their newest vintages amidst the splendor of the Tuscan vineyards.
Tenuta degli Dei was no exception—though its event felt like something different. Something more intimate. More curated. Tucked in the hills of San Leolino, the narrow drive winds past ancient stone walls and the Romanesque church that guards the Cavalli wine cellars. Then the view opens—and suddenly you’ve arrived. It’s quiet, and then it isn’t as you turn the corner. Music plays, wine is poured and the smell of fresh food tempts you toward the tasting area.
This is more than a Tuscany wine experience. This is a fusion of art, beautiful landscapes and fine wine.

Meeting Tommaso: the man behind the wine
Nadia welcomed us with glasses in hand. Mara introduced us to Tommaso. A quiet presence with thoughtful eyes, standing among bottles, art, and his own legacy. He welcomed us with an understated charm that made the moment feel personal. He signed a bottle for us with care—pausing in a day that was clearly full, but never rushed.
The vineyards stretch across rolling hills and merge with the forest line. The wines here are deep and deliberate. They echo this place, through their Chianti Classico and Tuscan reds. The estate still breeds horses. Still bears the imprint of the Cavalli name. But here, fashion has traded silk for Sangiovese. Tommaso has chosen to make his mark in the vineyard. And in these bottles, whether a bold Cabernet or a finely tuned Tuscan blend, you taste more than technique. You taste a journey.

A Taste of Tuscany, styled by Cavalli
The wines are elegant, well structured and intense! Ever seen a wine walk the runway? That is how we experienced them. We got the wine—a memory to take home. As we left and said goodbye to Mara, we understood why she insisted we come. Our visit was more than a treasured Italian red. It wasn't just a stop on a wine tour. We got to experience a chapter in a legacy. One part Roberto. One part Tommaso. One part Tuscany itself.
