Aaldering Vineyards & Wines

Devon Valley, Stellenbosch, South Africa, one of the most beautiful wine regioins in the world. A picturesque, boutique family winery in Stellenbosch with a touch of Dutch. A family member talks about how they found the perfect location and embraced the South African Pinotage grape. Aaldering makes a stunningly beautiful rose celebrating woman around the world and a flavor-bursting unwooded red wine that expresses the grape at its best. High quality, single vineyard wines are made from a number of other grape varieties, including a uniquely elegant, intense golden Noble Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc version.

People

A South African winery with a touch of Dutch! The Founders are Marianne and Fons Aaldering from the Netherlands. Their long term dream to produce high quality, fine wines from their own vineyard came into fruition in 2004 when they bought the estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Their youngest daughter, Jacqueline, and her husband Gert-Jan, answered, packed up and moved to South Africa to build a top notch, breathtakingly beautiful winery. Today they made their parents' dream come true by producing high quality wines that you find all through Europe and occasionally high-in-the-skies when "flyingblue" business class.

Place

A 27-hectare estate in the Devon Valley, directly west of Stellenbosch. Gently rolling hills provide a variety of exposures and micro-climates to the wine estate. Fully capturing the diversity of the terroir, both red and white grape varieties are grown including the legendary South African grape variety Pinotage. A variety created from a crossing between Pinot Noir and Hermitage (an old name for Cinsault). The soils are granite and sandstone based with high clay content supporting the production of muscular, full bodied, deeper colored wines with lasting longevity in the bottle.

Culture

What makes Aaldering very special is their celebration of women, with their Women of the World Pinotage rose. This wine comes in a collectable bottle to reflect the beautiful colors and diversity represented by women around the world. This year's label highlights African women; tenacious, hard-working women. Like the women working at Aaldering, they are empowered and play a significant role in their communities. Aaldering is also an avid supporter of Street Smart focusing on street children and those at risk of becoming street children in South Africa. Integrity and sustainability are driving values at Aaldering and this was recognized when they were invited to join the "Enviro Wines" group based on exceptionally high scores on sustainability in both farm and winery practices.
