About
Big wine, humble hands. Greenock Creek crafts some of Barossa’s most expressive reds—wines that are bold, site-driven, and impeccably balanced. What began in 1984 with a pioneering vision has evolved into a deep exploration and expression of terroir. Exemplified by a rich Shiraz, lifted by an unmistakably stone fruit undernotes from the rocky slopes of The Apricot Block and an opulent, spiced yet endlessly refreshing Cabernet Sauvignon, ‘Shiraz’ wanna-be from the red clay soils of the Seppeltsfield vineyard. These are the wines that called us back and made us travel 8,500 miles to tell—their story.

People
At Greenock Creek, there’s no pretense—just the honest work of two grounded craftsmen. Alex Peel, a seasoned winemaker with deep country roots, works in seamless collaboration with viticulturist Pete Atyeo who has nurtured the estate vineyards for nearly 40 years. Together, they follow a practical, minimal-intervention approach. Their philosophy is simple where the vineyard is first and the winery is second, allowing the wines to guide the winemaker to express the unique characteristics of each vineyard site. No rules! What matters most is character, balance, and letting the vineyard speak, emphasizing the unique characteristics of each vineyard site.

Place
In the western reaches of South Australia’s Barossa Valley, beneath eucalyptus canopies and atop loamy, rocky blue stone earth, Greenock Creek’s vineyards reflect a rugged and radiant sense of place. From the rocky, silty, sandy loam slope of The Apricot Block in Maranga to the structured red, brown earth over limestone in Seppeltsfield —each parcel is individually nurtured and expressed. In summer, temperatures can reach well over over 30 C (86 F), but the vicinity to Greenock creek and shadows casted from the large canopies of Eucalyptus trees can provide relief. These diverse microclimates and soils of these regions are reflected in the single-vineyard wines showcasing variations in flavor profiles with rich intensity, freshness, and an unmistakable soul.
Culture
The culture at Greenock Creek is defined by the discipline and patience of letting the vines speak, low yield cropping, and deep respect for the land. Every wine is grown and vinified as a single-site expression. Grapes are handpicked and fermented in small open-top fermenters, with careful temperature control to preserve nuanced flavors. The wines undergo gentle basket pressing before aging in oak, with the choice of oak tailored to each vintage and vineyard to enhance the wine's character. The wines are known for their depth, structure, and longevity. It’s a culture of quiet excellence underscored by the multiple 100-point scores from Wine Advocate.
